Meeting notes: January 28th, 2010 [Jan. 28th, 2010|09:18 pm] sf4m [hoskie] Meeting called to order at 7:04 PM President's Report: Welcome back! We've got a hell of a meeting to-night. We're going to be nominating Head Librarian, Head AC, Vice President, Historian, and Secretary. Meetings have been changed to 7:00 PM, but are still Thursdays. Vice President's Report: Hi, I'm your Vice President, but not for very much longer! CLEAN. Treasurer: I'm going to a meeting on Saturday where they're going to teach me how to do my job. Secretary's Report: Remember how I said I last semester that it was my last meeting as secretary? Well, I may have graduated, but I haven’t escaped. I’ll still be taking minutes this meeting and next until we elect a new secretary. Librarian's Report: I said I'd come down during the winter break and in that timeframe I made a few decisions. I know we started shelving the doubles, but I really don't think they'll all be able to fit on the shelf. If we remove them, we'll have way too much room, but if we shelve them we won't have space for anything else. But now, the doubles have been super condensed into a blackhole of boxes of books. What we have now are boxes stacked neatly. And now we’ll have room for anthology and series and everything else. It won't be this way forever, but for now this is what we're doing. I've been committing to going to the library to do work every day this week and trying to get things done before my courseload increases. I'm going to be working to-morrow and Saturday (hopefully unboxing the anthologies). Call the Forum to see if I'm there if you want to help. Also, we're looking for shiftholders! If we want to be a functional library we need shiftholders. I have an allocation planned for next week. I have an Amazon list of books: about $500 worth. The request list is sitting on one of the shelves, if you add books to it before next meeting I’ll put them on. Head AC: Your Head AC has many announcements. Firstly - YOU WILL LEARN THE LINES. THERE WILL BE NO SCRIPTS ON THE NIGHT. Secondly – while this may be an unpopular decision for some, I've finally decided what we're doing with the DVDs. Fred can't buy us shelves. If we allocate for it, it will have to be phrased as a grant, and then they will tell us no, because they say no to all of our grants ALWAYS. It doesn't seem like a viable plan and even if we were to request something it would take them a few weeks to get back to us and we'd really like to get something done as soon as possible. We're going to use the remaining shelves and move them into the back corner by the TV. We'll sort the DVDs into series and movies. I know a lot of you will be concerned about leaving the DVDs out in the open - but one complaint we have consistently gotten about our new location is: "I can't get into the room. It's so annoying getting into the room," etc. I have to believe that the DVDs are safer unlocked in this room than they were in the locked cabinet in the easily broken into Harriman. My goal is to have them moved by next week, but I don't know if it can be accomplished all at once. We had good luck with a Forum run D&D game last semester but due to circumstances beyond anyone's control... all gaming notes and campaign knowledge have been lost to a fiery grave and the DM has been crippled. As a Forumite and a gamer, I would like to thank Howie for running it. On a related note, Drow is considering running a new game for the Forum (hopefully meeting weekly) based on the new Doctor Who RPG system (we promise you it is more balanced than Serenity!). If you're interested, speak to Drow (post to LJ if you would like Drow to see your notes of interest). Even if I end up getting elected to Head AC again, I have no intention of running Roth Regatta. However, if someone is interested in doing so, we will certainly allocate for supplies (where you're going to build the boat, I have no idea - but power to you!). Sub AC for Life: We have new movies this week: 9, Moon, and The Dead Zone. I gave Ian my blessing re: the new plan for the DVD shelving. Let it be known that I will murder you if any of my movies are missing. Historian's Report: I didn't have a report prepared for to-night... (Jackie, interjects): Once upon a time, we had unsuccessfully elections - let's not let this happen this time! Committees PR: Meetings are at a new time. ... come to our club. Peter's Hat Committee: ... the hat strikes again! Old Business Jackie: Its 2010! Drow: Last semester I proposed allocating for Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and the History Channel’s Universe series. Ian: I think we should save DVD allocations until after we get our book order. Jackie: CLEAN! New Business Lukas: Allocations. To Staples, for no more than $14. We need to get two rubber stamps with new dates on them (the ones we have only go up to 2009). Seconded. Acclimated. To ResouceMate, $75 for their yearly catalogue services. Seconded. Acclimated. To IKEA, $104.97 for shelves. Seconded. Acclimated. Everyone sez: THROW AWAY YOUR TRASH WHEN YOU LEAVE. MAKE SURE THERE IS A TRASHBAG IN THE CAN FIRST. LOCK THE DOOR WHEN YOU LEAVE. COMMON SENSE, PEOPLE! Announcement Jackie: Fuck relativity! Ian: Phil will be tasered every hour on the hour!
