Meeting notes: October 15th, 2009 [Oct. 15th, 2009|10:23 pm] hoskie Meeting called to order at 8:30 PM President’s Report: Hi. I’m your president. I haven’t done much yet, but I’ll do as much as I can and pass the rest off to Roman. I’m going away this weekend… Adib: Who are you, George Bush? … going on vacation already?! Vice President’s Report: The Halloween event is going to be October 28th (the Wednesday before Halloween). It’s going to be in the Union auditorium like it was last year. Treasurer’s Report (Peter): I talked with Matt Anderson, our budget thing was submitted smoothly, but we haven’t gotten a hearing yet. Secretary’s Report: I was sick last week. Thanks to Phil for taking the minutes. I’ve got something for later. ALL HAIL THE PRESARIAN! Librarian’s Report: Thanks for doing work in the library, it’s very appreciated. Keep doing what you’re doing. (followed by a prolonged discussion about the benefits and problems of shelving the double copies) Possible EPIC SHELF SHIFTING on October 25th (Sunday). AC Report: We have been able to get some of our AV equipment up and functional and we’ve had a few marathons already. I would really like to find our board games again and I would also like to have us build our collection of genre related board games. We still need to figure out what to do with the DVDs… it all depends on how secure we think our DVDs need to be. We could just start shelving them on the available shelves on the TV cabinet OR we could try to allocate for some kind of unit. We’re going to start looking at prices. Roman: I would like to start up dramatic readings again. … we still haven’t finished “The Shadow God” by Aaron Rayburn! Phil: Anyone can come in and play our group Final Fantasy IX game, it’s file save #2 on the memory card. We just moved onto disc 2. Please share, don’t hog the system! Ian: It should be noted that DVDs trump video games. … but be courteous either way. Peter: Next Thursday at noon, I’ll be running a Buffy marathon. Sub AC for Life: I’m pleased that we have a working TV, but I’m not pleased that we don’t have a place to put the DVDs. Historian’s Report: *the rise and demise of the D6 gaming club* Committees Ian Committee: Does not exist. PR: We’ll make fliers for the Halloween event. Fundraising: *coins were thrown* Old Business Ian: At the Halloween event, we’ll be showing “Blood Tide” with James Earl Jones and we’re hoping to also show the original “House on Haunted Hill” which is thankfully in the public domain. Again, the event is the 28th, set up begins at 7:00, event begins at 7:30. We’ll be showing the first movie and in between will be the Forum Jeopardy run by Roman… Roman: I’ve fixed all of the glitches we had last year. In addition to that, at last year’s event we just had people banging on the table to buzz in… but this year we will actually have buzzers and a timer system. Ian: We pre-emptively allocated $75 to BJ’s last week for candy. There will be prizes for both the costume contest and the jeopardy game – we’re trying to get free things. Jackie: Clean. Peter: Shelve. Roman: Phil’s mom. New Business Mo: I’m creating a science fiction podcast and I think it would be cool if some Forum people would participate, so talk to me about it if you’re interested. Announcements Hoskie: Someone came by the other day and dropped off a bunch fliers for an event that’s happening at the Staller Center that’s sci-fi related. The L.A. Theatre Works is putting on a recreation of both “War of the Worlds” and “The Lost World” radio broadcasts. The show is October 30th at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $34 but provided it doesn’t sell out there will be rush tickets for $7 (I think the rush tickets might be students only, but I could be wrong). You can read more about the event at stallercenter.com Meeting closed at 9:21 PM
