More Forum Move (and more Historium) [Jun. 5th, 2009|01:19 am] jcholewa Reposted from the SFForum Yahoo Group: "Calling all Forumites! On June 7, Sunday, we have been approved of using the Union once again to move our stuff. This is another big day, so if you were unable to come last time, and you wanted to help out, now's your chance. We've packed up 99% of the lounge thanks to the efforts of people who helped last time, and they are all ready for moving. Please note that while we had tremendous help last time, there is still SO much stuff to do, and any type of help we can get is welcome. Please also note an important fact: WE ARE OUT OF CARDBOARD BOXES, BRING SOME!!! As of right now, we don't have a single box empty anymore and there's still a good section of the library yet to be packed, in fact it's from D-Z, so still most of the library. We will be looking to reuse boxes once they're unloaded, but that could still take a while. So if you have any that are big and clean, please donate your cardboards. That's about it, I hope this second move will be as successful as the first, and thank you all for your efforts. - Julia Fu Science Fiction Forum" For what it is worth, there's a facebook event for this. ---------- Interesting reading from eighteen years and change ago: "Would someone tell me why everyone wants a nickname? eg, BAP, Slime, JAM, #4, Ferret signed, An old one." - Bill Bianco, 4-10-81, 12:15 Interesting, eh? Turns out the whole nickname tradition didn't seem to start until the Forum was well over a decade old. Speaking of which, only a few weeks after this, somebody is complaining (or maybe boasting, it's hard to tell) about the "roaches" they killed in the Forum. They didn't refer to them as "Fluffies" back then. I'll probably work it out eventually, but does anybody know more or less when the name was coined or caught on? In closing, some words of wisdom (emerging from a very, very drawn out, no-punches-pulled, genuine flame war) from Perianne Lurie: "Subtlety is beyond the comprehension of the average Forum member; try bluntness!" -4/21/81, 7:22pm
