Meeting notes: April 2nd, 2009 [Apr. 2nd, 2009|09:14 pm] hoskie Meeting called to order at 8:00 PM President’s Report: As you may or may not know, Jackie is not here to-night. She is co-head of membership and it is the night before I-CON. I don’t think I need to explain to any of you why she isn’t here. If you do something stupid at this meeting, Drow will kill you. And Drow has better aim than Jackie. This week has largely been good to us. Last Friday I had my meeting with USG Howie, I addressed a lot of questions we had been getting from older Forumites regarding the move. I have a slightly better idea of when we are going to actually physically move everything over to the Union. I’ll go into that more later. I’m co-running the Forum table at I-CON along with Lukas and Orange. While we understand that a lot of you will be busy during the con, but it would be appreciated if you could help out at the table when you have free time. Vice President’s Report (Ian): Jackie probably would have said, Clean. … also pray for my soul because I-CON is trying to eat it. Treasurer’s Report: USG was competent to-day. I am still working on getting the phone situation resolved. I would also like people to order more books. Ian sez: “We’re working on it.” Secretary’s Report: Meh. Pokeymans. Librarian’s Report: Ian sez, “After Friday, we are no longer loaning out books for this semester as we will be starting to pack for the move. Keep an eye on the LJ if you’re a shiftholder regarding that.” Lukas sez, “If someone wants to make a donation of books, we would prefer to get donations AFTER the move (in June), but we’ll still be taking them if you have them.” AC’s Report: Johnny suggested a cool idea, we can get DVDs from that machine in the Union and they have a few things we don’t have in there. There was a cup filled with either Sprite or water sitting on this table for about four days straight so please… Throw. Out. Your. Shit. The Braveheart DVD is missing from the case (apparently we were already aware of this situation) and if I ever see anyone taking DVDs from the cabinet and not putting them back… I will kill you. Sub AC for Life: I brought in the DVDs I mentioned earlier last week. The Nerf Gun makes me mad with power! Historian’s Report: I have nothing to report, I am in a lot of pain. *many people chime in with stories of I-CON* Jeff Warner: In approximately 1983, an angry fringe Forumite vandalised the Forum by writing BS on our ceiling in spray paint. We had just come from watching a Karloff film in which he had said, “Step into my barouche.” (Which is a kind of carriage.) Someone took the can of spray paint and turned the BS into a B18 and drew the Forum rocket ship around it and that was the birth of the B-18 Space Barouche. Committees The Move (Ian): First, for those of you who have been interested in our internet support, the jack installation is scheduled. We’re still waiting for more information regarding prices for wireless. We would be a prime group to test out keycard access using IDs, which would be very effective for shiftholders and we wouldn’t have to keep pestering the people at the front desk. Any real changes being made to the room will be coming out of theoretical money that will be provided to us. What USG Howie said, is that if we don’t get electronic key access this year, we still should be able to get it next year. However, any change of the lights will be much harder to do later after we get the stacks in there. I think getting the lights fixed (they’re currently hanging lights that are very low) should be our primary priority. At the moment the ideal priorities are lights then key-cards. If you want to weigh in to this, please do, but keep it in this thread so it is easier for the officers to keep up with. The bad news: 24-hour access in the Union just isn’t happening any time soon. The hours that we do have access to the Union are: during the week from 7:30 AM to midnight. On the weekends from 9:00 AM to midnight. During breaks the hours get more shady, but it doesn’t sound completely impossible. Don’t worry, the sky isn’t falling. Over the past few years, we’ve rarely had situations where people are in here past midnight (or really, past 10:00 PM). In terms of all these ideas about campus services helping us move… beyond basic help from our building manager and getting access to the freight elevator, using the back exits from Harriman, etc. everything would have to come from that same money that we would need for lights and keycard access. It would be nice if we could get those services, but quite frankly, not at the expense of the other things that are more important. We can probably rough it and get it done ourselves, rather than paying campus to help us. When we get back from spring break (and those of us here during spring break will start the groundwork), we’ll start packing things up. We’re going to look into getting pallet wrap for the shelves. But the actual move from Harriman to the Union will take place over the course of one day, which will be AT THE EARLIEST in mid-May. An open question: … don’t we have an off-campus PO box? PR (Ian): Jackie has been hard at work making us flyers informing people about the move. I’m sure Jackie will have more to say about it after I-CON is over. Old Business Everyone: CLEAN! New Business Santos: Roman donated new DVDs. Roman: I got Shaft, White Noise, Psycho (not the classic, the new one with Viggo Mortensen), and the rest of these are even worse… Lady in the Water, The Wicker Man, and Catwoman. Phil: Don’t peel off the labels from soda bottles, then they can’t be returned for a refund. Announcements Julia: I am officially a wench. Now I can command people! Roman: NBC knows I’ve been downloading Battlestar Gallactica. They sent me a letter. Skip: We now have six rolls of pallet wrap on order for the Forum move. Drow: The guy who played Lorne on Angel died this week. He was only 33. Hoskie, interjects: I would like to have a Best of Lorne Marathon sometime after spring break. Meeting closed at 8:50 PM
