Meeting Notes: November 17th, 2008 [Nov. 17th, 2008|06:56 pm] hoskie Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM President’s Report: Various things have actually happened this week! Julia, Jackie, Victor, and myself all took a look at what campus is offering us for a new room. The Colors Lounge (which is half of what Old Forumites might remember it being). Obviously there will be some downsizing in space, but campus assures us that this is the largest space they can give us. I believe there is enough to fit the entirety of the library (with some finagling) and some vague semblance of a lounge. I think the meeting went as well as we could have hoped. Vice President’s Report: CLEAN. Treasurer’s Report: The allocation for ink has been handed in, I’ll be checking in on that later this week. Secretary’s Report: Thanks to Aaron for making great progress in regards to securing Jim Frenkel for the 40th Anniversary. Jim is going to be in New York in March, so THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY IS GOING TO BE IN MARCH. He basically said that he could work the date around when we schedule the Anniversary, so I’d like to get a feel for WHEN in March would be best for people so we can get back to him as soon as possible. AC Report: AC things are going well? I can’t remember when the last time I was here. AC Monkeys must put on movies if there isn’t a movie on! Next Monday night there will be a Movie Night directly after meeting (hosted by Anthony). We will be ordering a pizza (probably from Station) and hopefully we will have soda. There has been a lot of Magic playing going on. The actual rule about Magic playing is simply “MODERATION”, but a good guideline is there will be not be two games of Magic in a row. There must be at least 20 minutes of non-Magic between Magic games. I haven’t been here lately because I’ve been having issues with chronic fatigue. A while ago I rearranged the DVD cabinet to include the third shelf to make more space, so don’t just put “V for Vendetta” at the end of the second shelf because that would be WRONG. Ian: When you run out of ideas of what movies to put on and everyone is kind of ‘meh’ on the idea of movies… keep in mind, we have several video game systems and some of them are hooked up to the big TV. Your job as AC is not limited to DVDs. Orange: We also have an idea of doing a group democratic playing of Fable II… Sub AC for Life: Everything is present and accounted for. I’m glad Orange is here because if she wasn’t I would have brought up impeachment. Next week I will have in the movies for this month, which will include: Hellboy 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Tank Girl. I’m starting a “Cyberman List” which will include movies that need to be UPGRADED from VHS to DVD. Librarian’s Report: Shiftholders do your jobs! The ones that do their jobs know that they’re doing their jobs and the ones that don’t… don’t. We’re still waiting for the allocation for library supplies to come in so we can start adding new books to the catalogue. Kim tried to fix the shelves, but she had the wrong parts so that is still being worked on. We will be doing Dramatic Readings again soon. They’ll be a little different than they have been in the past as the majority of the dramatic reads will be coming from what is widely considered to be the worst fantasy novels EVER PUBLISHED: The Shadow God by: Aaron Rayburn. We’ll begin to-morrow at 3:30 and henceforth it will be Mondays about an hour before meeting. Wench Report (Orange): I really want to get started on this whole pulps thing. It was suggested to me that we should do this as an event. It will either be an entire weekend, depending on how many people are available or we’ll end up doing it during the week and the lounge will be closed and anyone who wants to hang out will have to do so in the library. We will be bagging up all the pulps and organizing them and typing up a list of all of them. Bringing in laptops would be a very good idea. The actual date will be announced in the future when we know for sure what we’re doing. Historian’s Report: Howie: I could ask Lisa. Jackie: No! We are not having a Historian’s Report over World of Warcraft. *Jackie reads a page of Log featuring a hilarious article about cocaine from 1985* Committees PR (Orange): We need to advertise more. Everyone put up more posters! We have a stack of flyers advertising The Forum; hang them up around campus (usual rules apply: not on glass, not on restricted bulletin boards, etc). Fundraising (Roman): How about a Not-Kissing both? Pay me a dollar, I won’t kiss you. Old Business CLEAN! New Business Orange: I’d like to allocate $75 to Stop and Shop for food for the upcoming movie nights. Jackie: Thanks go to Rich for donating cardboard tubes, those will help us out for Regatta in the spring. Orange: Speaking of Regatta, it has been suggested to us that instead of making one giant boat we make a fleet of tiny boats. We should make them around a theme… Ian: IN REGARDS TO THE MOVE AND OLDER FORUMITES, as you may know our 40th Anniversary and our move will be happing around the same time. You may be asking yourself, “What can I do to show my appreciation for the Science Fiction Forum?” The room that we’re moving into has two (important) problems: The lighting is awful; we need lamps. This can be solved by our budget, but if you’re looking for something to donate, that’s something we’ll be needing. I wouldn’t suggest any one person do this themselves, but perhaps as a group… we would like to get larger shelves in order to maximize the amount of (vertical) space we have. We’ll give exact measurements as soon as we have them. We’ll be asking campus for money… but open your hearts, and possibly your wallets. Phil: The Bond movie run didn’t end up happening on Friday, so we’re trying to reschedule for Thursday (student discounts!). Announcements Drow: These movies have been declared obsolete! Orange: A sleep study is exactly like trying to brainwash someone. They stuck goo to my head! I only got to sleep for four hours! Roman: The word ‘meh’ has been added to to the dictionary. An example of its use is, “The Canadian election was so ‘meh.’” AA: Everyone come see Swallow This on Wednesday, it’s during campus lifetime in the SAC auditorium. Meeting closed at 7:38 PM
