May 5th, 2007 Culmination. [May. 5th, 2007|11:54 pm] sf4m [snwkitty] I wanted to say thank you to everyone who came and helped us out during the pre-Regatta. A special thanks to Bobby 2, Anthony 2/3, and Janet who stayed up all night Thursday night and helped make sure this thing actually got done. (Also: Ryan, Onion, and Anthony 3/3 who put in a huge effort as well.) I did want to remark how the attendance for the Regatta, both the building and the event itself was disappointingly low. The build would have gone smoother with more hands, perhaps sleep might have been involved - but things come up, I understand. In any event - it got built. However - I would have liked to see a few more friendly forumite faces cheering us on during the race. If you weren't there - you missed something truly wonderful between the teamwork and the spirit - as well as being serious fucking nerds and being damned proud of it. Overall, I think this year was wonderfully successful, even if we did not win any spifftastic trophy. We placed second out of five in our heat (the first place was a boring Kayak thing built for speed. blah) We encountered our usual "finish line entanglement" issues - but crossed to cheering spectators all around. Best in Show - there were alot of awesome boats there and it's amazing what each team comes up with from the same theme. Spartans travelled around in capes and shields, and our view to the pond's starting line was obscured by a giant red high-top converse sneaker. Princess Peach and a Nintendo/mario themed boat toiled through the regatta itself to just barely finish construction on time. And let us not forget the Batmobiles. It was lots of fun - there are some pics posted already if you follow www.rothregatta.org and click the external link for pics. navigate to the 2007 ones and there are hundreds of photos at your fingertips. When people upload their pics - please link to them from here in a post so we can all see. Once again - thanks for a job well done, and a great great experience all around (minus the sleep dep. that's never fun) -Kim
