I also wish all of you a good holiday season! We got some fairly important work done in the last meeting, so here's a run through. We held our elections for Vice President, Librarian, and Activities Coordinator. The following people are now in office for these positions: V.P.: Rob Cobb Librarian: Jennifer Adams Activities Coordinators: Glen Given (Squirrel) and Darin Brown* Congratulations to all winners. (*Note, that after trying out the two person Activities Coordinator position for a semester, we decided to amend the Forum's Charter to say that the position can be held by up to two people.) We made several allocations, starting with: $241.92 to Abaco Steel Products for 4 new shelf units, and 8 separate shelves (for replacing old ones that are beat up.) $162.30 to University Products for library supplies. Includes book covers, pockets, and cards. $112.23 to Staples for office supplies. Includes a much needed hand truck for going to get book donations, and other routine supplies. $40.00 to CompUSA for lock down cables. ****** WHITE WATER RAFTING ****** Date has been set for April 5th! This is after ICON to give the people involved with organizing that event a better chance of being able to join us. If you missed out on the parachuting (or it just wasn't what you wanted to do - like me), this is YOUR CHANCE to join the elite SF4M Tactical Squad!!! We are looking at going to the Lehigh River Gorge, but are still considering other locations. Their is also still some debate on whether we will actually leave on Sat. and sleep over in PA for the Sunday event. If anyone has a great deal on accommodations for A LOT of people - please send me a note. If we get more than 20 people to go, it should cost about $45 a person to do the Rapids. #######Engagement PARTY######## For Laura and Garick!! To be held at Laura's place this Friday the 30th, starting around 8:00pm. (Some might know this abode better as Wendy's place) Come and celebrate Forumites getting hitched! (Laura's words, not mine ;) ) The 30th Anniversary Committee has moved it's meetings to immediately after the main SF4M meetings on Weds. nights. If you want to contribute to the committee, please contact Rob at r****b@i*.******b.edu. We have a question from the great void of the Internet. A Paul asks the following: >I'm trying to identify a short story I read many years ago. It involves >an alien rescue mission sent to Earth to save us from a sun about to go >nova. When the alien rescue party arrives they find the planet >deserted. They try to figure out what happened to the people. They >even speculate on mass suicide. Then their ship's sensors detect a >flotilla of Earth ships making their way towards a new planet. End of >story. >I'd really like to identify the title and author. It's not driving me >crazy (yet), but it's getting close. Can anyone in your group help? Please e-mail me if you know the answer. Also, here's an employment opportunity for all of you slackers seeking work: >Hey, I've got another employment opportunity here. >Aeroflex is looking for someone to fill a permanent entry level >position. They are thinking of recent grads. >This is for an MIS position. Programming skills are a major plus. >Requirements: >1) Person must have some computer skills > (at least one) >2) Person must be able to provide a resume. > (we aren't expecting a lot on it but we hafta have one) >3) Person must be able to act normal on cue. > (act like a semi-professional; shirt+maybe a tie environment) >Gerry seemed to do pretty well over here if that is any indication. >Please pass the word. We received 2 large boxes of book donations from The Sci-Fi Channel over the break and have received contact from other private donors for more books and video tapes on the way. (THANKS To ALL DONORS!!) Please note that the Science Fiction Forum is open to the entire community and as such everyone is welcome at the officially sponsored events like the White Water Rafting. Can be found in various anthologies, e.g., "Reach for Tomorrow," which also includes "A Walk in the Dark," and other great stories. Gorno
